Curious Company

General Info

This humorous, family show is about 5 Old Aged Pensioners who all walk with Zimmer frames. The story is simple- they are out for an afternoon constitutional walk from the Home that they live in. When they find a suitable spot they pull up and occupy the space like a group of skateboarders. One of the group has a ‘ghetto blaster’ which they set up and start to play. At first the music is of the kind that might be played at a Tea Dance. The Old People start to dance, maybe just a couple to start with and slowly and painfully but with enthusiasm. The scene that unfolds over the next 15mins or so is the realisation of a ‘Flight of Fantasy’ (young people trapped in old people’s bodies) in that the music and movement will become more animated and acrobatic than would be expected in reality, ending in all 5 pulling handstands on top of the frames.

They have spent time working with the movement quality and skin texture of Old Age and have focussed on the subjects of Love and Romance in later life. They have developed a new vocabulary of acrobatic moves using the (reinforced) Zimmer Frames. The piece incorporates Acrobatics, Contemporary Dance, Break and Tap Dancing and Object Manipulation and is humorous without disrespect for Old Age.

Show Format ZimZimmer comes in two versions; static show and walkabout. The static show involves a 20 minute static piece with a short walkabout to and from the performance space. The walkabout version is a character-based moving sketch with the group interacting with the local environment and audience. This might involve going shopping, playing on the escalators, having a picnic, getting on the bus, sitting on a bench observing the local youth, etc. This version can be 20-45mins depending on the environment and event requirements. They will perform twice a day, static or walkabout or one of each.
